Can you dream? I mean really dream?
Do you ever envision wildest dreams as a reality or do you hold back so you won’t be disappointed later if those dreams don’t come true? Productive dreaming is a muscle that has to be exercised.
When Michelangelo was asked about some of his greatest pieces, his answers were simple.
“I saw the angel in the marble and carved until I set him free,”
About David, he said,
“All I did was chip away at everything that wasn’t David.”
Isn’t that the same way God works? He did with David, he did with Paul, and he does with us. He is a fantastic artist.
Artists are amazing. They think differently than other people. They can see things that aren’t really there; a sculptor, like Michelangelo, can create something beautiful out of a block of marble. A composer can put on paper melodies that don’t exist, and a musician can turn that paper into a moving work of art. They see the potential.
What are God’s Dreams of you?
We need that mindset when in our lives. When most people take a look at themselves, they see the hard, cold stone; God sees something beautiful, and we should, too. There’s a person He’s called us to be, and maybe we aren’t there yet, but if we can see that person, we can chip away at everything that isn’t that person.
During his ministry, Paul wrote a letter to the Philippians. In it, he gave them some great words on how to chip away at their own blocks of stone.
“Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble,
whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely,
whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy —
meditate on these things,”
Philippians 4:8.
Meditating — thinking over and over about these things. If you envision something often enough and long enough, you’ll begin to pursue it. You’ll raise your rock bottom. You’ll start to see things happen and will recognize what’s not you, and what is you .
That’s how God sees you. He sees what you were called to be, not just what you are. Can you take a step back and see yourself that way? It’s all about our vision in life.
Living intentionally is seeing opportunities when the world sees problems. The world tells us not to get our hopes up because we will be let down. But that doesn’t have to be reality, and it definitely doesn’t have to be our dreams.
Don’t fear the space between your reality and your dreams. When you look at it through God’s eyes, it’s not as big. Don’t look look at that space as a problem. Embrace it for the opportunity it presents to become the person you were called to be.
